In June 1897, The Station Hotel,
Built on a site opposite the Railway Station, it was a fore-runner of its time, including such modern conveniences as electric lights, a passenger lift and heating which was ventilated mechanically to all rooms vie flues and upward to the central tower, a well known landmark in Dumfries.
